Poetry

Their Funeral
by Earl Bergland, 1989

Vile evil is the tyranny of a funeral
No nonsense friendly funeral
Button up queue up like in enemy territory
Civilized and efficient

A mournful organ vibrating the bones marrow

Cattle searching for their feet
Herded to sorrowful stalls

Singing songs mumbo jumbo
Don't cry mumbo jumbo
Big picture mumbo jumbo
Not gone mumbo jumbo

Parading ducks grave-site bound

A choked dust-to-dust goodbye

A going of ways
A sorting of thoughts
Remembering
Forgetting

Here comes tomorrow
